At Trail Trust, we believe that the thrill of adventure should be accessible to everyone, regardless of physical abilities or background. Since our founding in 2021, we've been dedicated to fostering sustainable adventure by providing grants to organizations that share our vision. One such partnership we're incredibly proud of is with the High Fives Foundation and its innovative program, Return to Dirt.
We began our partnership with Return to Dirt at the beginning of 2024 and the organization is more than just an adaptive motorsports program?it's a lifeline for individuals with disabilities who long to reconnect with the great outdoors. This unique program provides the necessary equipment and expert instruction, enabling participants to pilot off-road vehicles into the backcountry. For many, outdoor recreation is an unattainable dream due to physical limitations, but Return to Dirt breaks down these barriers, offering a chance to experience the raw beauty of nature firsthand. With Trail Trust funding, the High Fives Foundation will host off-roading trips for a minimum of 10 adaptive athletes plus 20-30 mentoring participants and volunteers, serving two primary communities: Truckee-Tahoe and Reno.
The impact of this program also extends beyond the physical. Return to Dirt reunites disabled athletes with a part of themselves that can only be found in nature. The sense of freedom and empowerment that comes from navigating rugged terrain is transformative, fostering a renewed sense of self-worth and possibility.
At Trail Trust, we're honored to support this life-changing work. Our commitment to sustainable adventure means that we?re not just focused on the present, but on creating lasting opportunities for future generations. By supporting programs like Return to Dirt, we ensure that the spirit of adventure remains alive and accessible to all, regardless of their circumstances.
